Sentilo© was conceived and developed by openTrends for the Barcelona City Council. Since its deployment the platform has managed more than 1 billion transactions and gets on daily basis an average of three million transactions from close to 15.000 sensors from a variety of origins, what is a real scenario proving the validity and scalability of the solution.
The City Council decided to release the code as open source, with the aim that any public or private organization could use it and build a private/public ecosystem taking advantage of such synergy and costs savings.
Many public and private entities have deployed “Sentilo©” as sensor platform, adding new capabilities to the system and contributing this way to the expansion of the product and its community.
Major specialized media are fixed at the potential of Sentilo©: recently Engineering and Technology Magazine, Internet of Things Institute, Juniper Research or the Wall Street Journal quote it as one of the pillars of the Barcelona Smart City project. Lately, Sentilo has also been awarded with a prize in the Open Source world as top innovation project of the year.
